The train is rugged & big enough for them to grip onto. The colors stand out & as an added bonus, I brought the Trains into Maple Land Mark where they made a special brass name plate for the trains for very little. I love the train whistle especially - it has indicators engraved on it that tells you what each whistle sound means, i. e. backing up, etc. The hat is made of very strong fabric and more durable than I expected. But the train, boy is it nice. The colors are bright and the train is just so well made. I particularly like the fact that you can send away and get an engraved plate for this train to commemorate a special event, or just put your child's name on it. Our child has enjoyed many hours of fun playing with her dad's train sets. It makes me smile to watch them together. Each wearing their snappy blue or pink engineer's hats while taking turns signaling the on coming trains with the four-tone wooden train whistle. When we leave for a car trip (long or short) our child takes along the "My Train" engine from the gift set for hours of independent play while I run around town or visit with friends.
